Q: What divisions of football are offered at Olathe West Youth Football (OWYF)?
A: Flag and Tackle football opportunities are both offered at OWYF. Our three FLAG divisions are: K-1st Grade, 2nd-3rd Grade, 4th-5th Grade. Our five TACKLE divisions are: 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, 6th Grade. OWYF teams will be formed so long as there are enough participants in any given grade range to produce a team. NOTE: There are no 6th Grade Flag teams at OWYF.
Q: What league does OWYF participate in? What are the RULES of play for Flag and Tackle?

Q: Where do OWYF teams practice?
A: While this decision is at the sole discretion of each team's respective coaching staff, we are graciously offered the use of the turf and grass football fields at Olathe West High School as our practice home for all grades both Flag and Tackle.
Q: Where do OWYF teams play their games?
A: All Flag and Tackle games are played on TURF FIELDS! Most games will be played at Olathe West High School, Mill Valley High School, and DeSoto High School. Depending on the league and teams in any given division for that year, there may be an occasional game played at another Metro Kansas City Kansas or Metro Kansas City Missouri high school turf field.
Q: What is the registration timeline & DEADLINE for Fall Flag and Tackle football with OWYF?
A: February 1st - May 31st of the year of participation.
Q: How do I register for OWYF?
A: We prefer that ALL registrants complete this process online right here at our website under the MORE tab above. From there you will be directed to our Dick's Sporting Goods Team Headquarters Registration Site. If you have questions about this or prefer other arrangements just let us know and we will work with you. During online registration you will have the option to pay now, pay by installments, or pay "offline" (check or cash) later but prior to the start of practice the first Monday in August.
Q: When does the Fall football season start? What is the first day we can practice?
A: The first Monday in August by league rules. Your coaches may decide to start later at their discretion. You will need to communicate with your coach about when your team will start practice.
Q: When can we expect to play our games?
A: League games for all OWYF teams will generally begin in early September and conclude in late October to early November. Games are generally played on Saturdays (league prefers to avoid Sundays) and can start as early as 8AM or as late as mid to late afternoon. You can find the schedule at Each team's coaching staff may play in tournaments outside of the league schedule as they desire and arranged with their individual team members and families.
Q: Are all OWYF coaches USA Football Certified and are all subject to a formal background check?
Q: Does OWYF provide scholarship opportunities?
A: It is our strong desire that every child who dreams of playing youth football is provided an outstanding opportunity to be a part of our family. Each case will be considered and handled individually, discreetly, and internally through the leadership of our program.
Q: Is Olathe West Youth Football a registered Non Profit Organization?
A: Yes. OWYF has filed for and obtained our non profit Kansas Articles of Incorporation and Federal Tax ID Number (FEIN). We have applied for 501(c)(3) exemption status as well and plan to receive that designation soon allowing any donations to our organization to be tax deductible. We desire to be a fully transparent organization while showing optimal fiscal responsibility in our causes.
Q: Does OWYF carry general liability and accident/health insurance coverage?
A: Yes. We are insured with Entertainment Sports Promotion ("ESP") Specialty Insurance which is the official league and club insurance partner of USA Football.
Q: How is OWYF organized and governed?
A: OWYF's current leadership and Board of Directors was set up through volunteering for positions as we are a new organization just forming in 2017. Our Olathe West High School Head Football Coach, TJ O'Neill, is thoroughly involved in all aspects of what we're doing at the youth level. We are guided in our decisions through our organization's formal set of Bylaws. Ultimately it is our goal to attain a full eight board member status consisting of a Director, Assistant Director, Treasurer, Secretary, K-2nd grade rep, 3rd-4th grade rep, 5th-6th grade rep, and our Olathe West High School Head Football Coach.
